Hurstmere Road Streetscape Upgrade

The Hurstmere Road Upgrade project presents a number of challenges. There are many stakeholders on this street which would be affected by the traffic management. It was a challenge to create a solution that would cause minimum disruption to the local businesses while still completing the work.

Huia No1. Watermain Upgrade

Renewal of the large diameter watermain called Huia No.1 which has reached the end of its useful life. The watermain was built in the 1940s after World War II. To extend its life it was rehabilitated in the 1980s but now there is need to build a new pipe. Over the next few years, the 17km pipe is being built in sections across West and Central Auckland, in many cased through major intersection and long busy traffic routes.

Hunua 4 Watermain

This project is for Section 11 of the Hunua 4 Watermain project. This takes the pipeline from Market Rd through to Burleigh St in the city. Utilising busy, city streets as the route creates many issues involving high traffic volumes, noise in residential areas, access to businesses and residents, as well as very deep shafts that need protecting.

Hingaia Road

Widening of Hingaia road with 2 lane each way and a cycle way and upgrade pedestrian routes. It involved full depth pavement reconstruction of the road. Maintaining access was crucial as it is a main road for the area and there is a school right in the middle of the project area.

Grafton Gully Cycleway

The Grafton Gully Cycleway project presented a number of challenges – mainly the tight working spaces adjacent to the motorway and the tunnel under Wellesley Street (it was open trenched). The high traffic volumes through this area required us to maintain traffic flows as much as possible

Ellerslie Noise Wall Upgrades

Widening of the Southern Motorway in Auckland over time has pushed State Highway 1 extremely close to adjacent commercial properties in this very constrained corridor. Improved noise protection was called for and due to the already constrained corridor – construction was a challenge to ensure safe working room, and limited disruption on New Zealand’s busiest road.

Downtown Infrastructure Development (DIDP)

The DIDP actually describes a suite of projects – encompassing numerous complimentary activities along Auckland’s waterfront. This project might just be one of the most challenging we have ever been involved with – requiring unique solutions, new ideas and significant communication right from tender time. The traffic volumes, coupled with the disruptive work means this project will forever be delicately working in the sweet spot between disruption and productivity.

Dairy Flat Highway Safety Improvements

A dangerous road environment – the intersection of Coatesville Riverhead Highway and Dairy Flat Highway (formerly State Highway 17) is an accident black spot, high speed and tightly constrained. This project aims to completely reshape this high risk space. The challenge is to do so whilst maintaining full existing function during construction – and ensure safety of road users and road workers in the process.

Brigham Creek Road Upgrade

Now a very busy corridor – the Brigham Creek Road section through Whenuapai leading to Hobsonville remains a tight environment with little room for other road user groups aside from vehicles. This project aims to change that with road widening and insertion of shared paths safe for pedestrians and cyclists. Some additional safety improvements are also planned. As with any project like this in a busy area – space is at a premium and the challenege is to complete all that valuable construction whilst minimising disruption.

Auckland Northern Corridor

The final stage of Auckland’s Western Ring Route aiming to connect SH18 with SH1 . This was the first contract of its kind in New Zealand (a ‘Hybrid Alliance’) and Parallaxx were involved from tender time to encourage innovation in the Traffic Management space and ensure the best overall project result.
