TTM Frequently Asked Questions

We’ve heard you and we’re here to help.

Here are some TTM frequently asked questions that our team has encountered. If you have question let us know below

Training

Do you run workshops on the weekend?

We run Saturday workshops roughly every 2 months, or on-demand if requested.

Can I have a discount on the training course?

We offer discounts for high volume one-off or regular clients on a case-by-case basis. We also run discount promotions on certain products from time to time.

I need urgent training and none of the dates on the website work for me.

Give us a call or email, we have unlisted (private workshops) that are not shown on our website that can sometimes accommodate additional trainees. We can also run in-house or one-off workshops for clients at short notice if required.

What are the prerequisites? Can I do Level 1 STMS without TC?

Due to the updates in the competency model, the Level 1 TC course has been replaced with STMS Cat A Non-practicing, followed by a practical assessment.

How do I find out my NZTA ID number?

You may search and verify your NZTA ID number on the CoPTTM Search public website: https://copttm.nzta.govt.nz/publicsearch.jsp

Please note, if you’ve only done your TC course recently, your details may not be loaded by Waka Kotahi (it can take up to 12 weeks).

I have lost my NZTA warrant card can you order me a new one? How much will it cost?

To order a new warrant card email Waka Kotahi (NZTA) copttm.quals@nzta.govt.nz – the charge is $34.50 (including GST).

How long does it take for Waka Kotahi (NZTA) to send my ID card to me?

The time varies – generally, it will be no longer than 12 weeks. We process all our workshops immediately the next day, however the registration process within Waka Kotahi does take some time depending on their seasonal load.

I have changed my address since I attended a workshop, how do I get my ID card?

If you have changed address within two weeks of attending the workshop, please email us ASAP and we will advise Waka Kotahi – if they have not sent your card out already, we can have it changed. If your card has already been sent or is in the post, you will have to email Copttm.quals@nzta.govt.nz to get a new one ordered.

I have registered for a workshop and received an invoice, but no joining instructions or registration confirmation.

Please check that you have paid the invoice, all training must be paid for in full (unless previously agreed). Once you have paid for the training, all the joining instructions will be sent to you. Also – check your spam folder.

On-road TTM, or Hire Equipment

How do I find out who the STMS is for my TTM booking?

You will receive an email confirming your booking, with that will be the details of the STMS booked for your site. If you have misplaced this, you can call or email us anytime.

Why do I get charged for the team to drive from their yard to the site?

All TTM charges are charged ‘yard to yard’ (from when the team starts to load up their truck and head to your site). This is generally one hour each way, depending on your location.

How many heads can I have on a Portable Traffic Signals set?

You can have up to 4 heads (traffic light approaches) connected, however you add additional heads for larger intersections.

Do your Portable Traffic Signals come with the “stop here” signage?

Yes, they do. This will come with with the Portable Traffic Signals (PTS).

What equipment do you hire?

We can source any equipment you need, if there is something you are looking for that isn’t advertised on our website, please get in touch and we will happily help you out.

What if I need urgent after-hours assistance with my hired equipment?

That is not a problem, we will always be happy to help. You can contact your regular consultant, or the staff member via mobile for urgent assistance.

TMP

How long does TMP approval take?

Applications must be made at least 15 working days before work starts. Submitting an application is not an authority to start work. You must wait until you receive your approved CAR/TMP permit by email.

What are the fees to submit a TMP to the council?

Fees can vary from each Local Government Area (council) and may vary each time you apply. We can provide some indication of these potential fees at the time of TMP submission.

I only need to be on site for 5 minutes, should I bother with a TMP?

Yes. A person can get injured or killed in seconds if you do not have the appropriate safety measures in place.

Can I have the site set up for any time of the day?

This will need to be reviewed by the Traffic Management Coordinator (TMC) as there are peak traffic roads that may have time restrictions. This will also apply if you are near a school or early learning centre. You must also adhere to the construction noise standard NZS 6803 1999.

Do I need the Traffic Management Plan onsite?

Yes. An attended (active) site must have a Traffic Management Plan (TMP) on site at all times.

Can I setup my own Traffic Management?

Some things to consider.

  • You will need a TMP that is in accordance with the Code of Practice for Temporary Traffic Management (CoPTTM) and approved by AT or other RCAs.
  • Appropriately qualified personnel are required onsite (Site Traffic Management Supervisor (STMS) and/or Traffic Controller/s (TC).
  • Appropriate and compliant equipment will be required to set up your site.
