Challenge

This project involves another new roundabout construction on a State Highway. This time at the intersection of SH1 and SH15 south of Whangarei. SH1 still carries high volumes of traffic, particularly heavy vehicles and we must maintain two way traffic flow at all times. High speeds and space constraints are the major challenges on this project

Solution

This is an ongoing project but we have designed a temporary roundabout solution utilising sections of new widening to shift traffic around. There are also numerous lengths of temporary barrier system that needed to be designed, as well as working in with existing permanent barrier systems on site
