The STMS category A/B non-practising workshop provides the foundational knowledge and skills required to manage traffic management operations on category A and B roads. This workshop is ideal for those stepping into supervisory roles or aiming to advance their career in Temporary Traffic Management (TTM).

What You’ll Learn

• Deliver site safety briefings and inductions.
• Calculate layout distances for category A and B road environments.
• Set up, maintain, and remove TTM for static operations (e.g., shoulder closures, two-way two-lane closures, multi-lane closures).
• Conduct mobile and semi-static operations and closures.
• Manage special activities and ensure site compliance.

What You'll Achieve?

Upon successful completion, you will receive:

• Non-practising training: Unit Standard 31962 (STMS-NP)
• Practising training: Unit Standard 31963 (STMS-P)
• A digital certificate of completion, automatically issued upon passing.

Workshop Prerequisites

There are no required prerequisites are required to enrol in this workshop, however the STMS universal workshop (unit standard 31961) is recommended.

Assessments

• Non-Practising training: Assessed progressively during the workshop.
• Practising training: Assessed by a qualified assessor during practical sessions.

Schedule and Duration

• Day 1: 8 hours (including breaks).
• Day 2: 5–6 hours (including breaks).
• Time: 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM.
• Days: Weekdays (weekend workshops available for group bookings).

To enrol, participants must provide one of the following:

• National Student Number (NZQA RoL)
• Passport (current)
• Birth Certificate
