Warkworth-Snells-Algies Wastewater Services

The section of this project currently under construction is from Snell’s Beach to Algies Bay. The route travels through urban and high speed rural areas, and the method of construction requires the work site to move constantly along the road. This poses challenges for maintaining safety and using temporary barrier systems

Victoria Street Cycleway

Downer were awarded the contract for this project right before Christmas 2019, with a start date of 27th December 2019 and a very ambitious completion target of the end of February 2020, to fall in line with a major change in bus routes throughout the central city. The project involved a major upgrade of the Victoria St/Wellesley St/Halsey St intersection, as well as kerb buildout, new bus stops and footpath widening along a 800m long section of road to provide for dedicated cycle lanes in both directions.

Upper Queen St Cycleway

Weaving a new cycleway through Auckland city centre involved the piecing together of numerous projects that each involved their own unique challenges. This project involved a worksite length of less than 200 metres, but yet presented significant spatial constraints, linemarking challenges and traffic management interventions.

Transmission Gully Motorway

AS per the NZTA website “one of the most significant single pieces of new road construction in the lower North Island”. And it is not an understatement. The project spans 27km from Mackays crossing to Linden. Most of the project was build in Greenfields but the tie in point has significant challenges due to the narrow carriageways to keep the traffic flowing while construction is happening.

Te Atatu Road Corridor Improvements

The Te Atatu Road Corridor Improvements project involved providing additional bus lanes along Te Atatu road and upgraded pedestrian and cycle lane facilities and full depth pavement reconstruction. This corridor was severely congested with Vehicles, Shops and schools and additional community services.

Tamaki Drive Improvements

A significant corridor heading to East Auckland (from the CBD) – Tamaki Drive has long been a major thoroughfare for all modes (especially cycling) and safety improvements have been desperately required for some time (especially at the intersection of Ngapipi Drive). With the multimodal environment and already safety-compromised intersection present – the TMP design and traffic staging of the project is a critical component to ensure overall safety is maintained whilst the construction progresses.

St Lukes Cycleway Safety Improvements

The St Lukes cycleway safety improvements will make it safer and easier for pedestrians and cyclists to cross the motorway ramps and St Lukes Road, and connect to the popular SH16 Northwestern Cycleway. Many of the project areas where situated alongside the motorway itself as well as on-ramps and off-ramps meaning major closures.

Southern Corridor Improvements

Construction of new widening on SH1 between Manukau and Papakura. This included adding at least one lane in each direction along the motorway, numerous new bridges, new ramps at the Takanini interchange whilst maintaining traffic flows on one of the busiest sections of the motorway network (significant peak flows each day, as well as weekends)
